Vacuum Tube Large Diaphragm Condenser
The Peluso P-49 recreates all of the features that brought the vintage M 49 the richness and high-end smoothness it is known for.
Produced from 1949 to 1974, the M 49 is best known for its use on Miles Davis' trumpet and vocalists Simon and Garfunkel, and Barbara Streisand. The M 49 was the first condenser microphone capable of remote pattern control, and of course our P-49 has a remote indexed 9-pattern selector. The unique slanted relationship of the head grille to the capsule reduces grille resonances. The miniature triode tube's design is particularly well suited for microphone use, with long life, low current consumption, and high input impedance. Despite the high cost and complexity of developing the right output transformer, this is the final crucial step in achieving the vintage '49 tonal quality. The P-49 makes a superb vocal mic. With mid-range detail and unique high-end smoothness the P-49 brings saturated warmth to vocals, violin, or drums.

Please note, some of the videos included here are using the the MSC - Mid-Side-Custom version of our P-49. The MSC microphone is identical to the standard P-49, but with an added end-address cardioid capsule. This configuration is ideal for capturing a vocalist-instrument combination in a single phase coherent mic giving independent editing control over the vocal and instrument.

"a smooth mid-range with a fairly creamy sound; the high end is open and airy with a gentle but even presence lift, and the low end is certainly weighty when used close up. With such generous headroom it’s much harder to push it into musical saturation, of course, but it does fill out a little in a nice way as things get hotter. I liked it a great deal, particularly on vocals (both male and female) and on acoustic stringed instruments like guitars and cellos, where it delivers a very attractive, full sound."

Switching over to acoustic instruments with more high frequency content the P49’s extended treble response really shone through. Acoustic guitar, piano and even drum overheads are all possible applications for the capable P49, and in essence it gives you all the vintage Neumann flavours you could want with less need to ‘finesse’ the tone with equalisation.
