The story of Johnny K and Groovemaster
Renowned record producer Johnny K was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. His music career began first as a guitar player and songwriter, then evolved into studio owner, recording engineer, and record producer. Johnny originally gained recognition recording demos in his small home studio called “Groovemaster”. Upon the strength of the demos for the local hard rock band Disturbed, Johnny was hired to produce their debut “The Sickness” for Giant Records. Johnny has since produced albums for Multi-Platinum artists Disturbed, Megadeth, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Drowning Pool, Trapt, and Alien Ant Farm. Other notable productions include The Plain White T’s, Finger 11, Sevendust, Pop Evil, Machine Head, Nonpoint, and Adelita’s Way.
Groovemaster has grown into a world class multi-room music complex in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, and has become a midwest mecca for a diverse clientele including Niki Minaj, Cindi Lauper, Staind, Anthrax, and Fall Out Boy and many others. In 2009, Johnny was Nominated for the highly coveted “Producer of the Year” GRAMMY Award for his work with Staind, Plain White T’s and 3 Dooors Down. Johnny’s productions have sold over 20 million copies worldwide, and he has multiple Billboard#1 albums, and #1 radio singles on rock, and alternative radio.
