Chuck Ebert

 

Texas-born, Toronto/Barrie-based producer/percussionist RAY DILLARD received his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music degrees from West Texas State University. For several years, Ray was percussionist for the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, and Director of Percussion Studies at West Texas State University. He then served as Guest Lecturer and Instructor of Percussion at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, before becoming the head of Percussion and MIDI Technology at San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas, a position he held until 1998 when he relocated to Toronto.

Ray has toured internationally for over four decades.  Recent activities included the completion of projects for solo percussionists Michelle Colton, Jamie Drake and Nicholas Papador.  Other recent projects include his fourth recording with The Ohio State University Wind Symphony, the Taktus Percussion Duo and a first solo project for Martha Johnson of “Martha and the Muffins” fame.  He also has just finished his 15th and 16th recording projects for the renowned percussion ensemble NEXUS, a group he has been working with since 1983. Five additional new projects are currently underway for a variety of artists from the US, Canada and Europe.  Ray recently had solo performances at art exhibitions in Toronto featuring the artwork of Alberta artist Douglas Haynes and in Barrie at the MacLaren Art Centre in a show featuring the artwork of Toronto artist Jaime Angelopoulos. The summer of 2017 saw the third installment of the rebirth of his annual Summer Solstice Concert event, an all night concert at the Sand Forest Farm performance barn in Simcoe County.

Ray’s considerable recording credits include Grammy and Juno nominated projects with artists and ensembles from the United States, South America, Europe, Japan and Canada. His recording work with the Toronto-based percussion ensemble NEXUS includes some 17 titles, the most recent being two projects featuring the music of John Cage and new pieces by Russell Hartenberger. He also recently completed his fourth project with the TorQ Percussion Quartet.  His acoustic jazz recordings include Ellis Marsalis, Paul English, Bruce Dudley, Joe LoCascio, and Marvin Stamm. His numerous projects include such diverse styles as Symphonic, Pop, Experimental, Roots and World Music.

Ray currently resides in Springwater, Ontario, Canada where he is the Business Manager for the ensemble NEXUS, produces and plays on numerous recording projects  and continues to be fascinated by many aspects of physics.
